Bluetooth Connected Smart Jewelry Wows the Ladies at CES

Anne Montera from the Tech Podcast Network and Health Tech Weekly checked out some connected jewelry this year at the Showstoppers event at CES 2014. Paul from CSR.com brought Bluetooth Smart Jewelry to the show this year and Anne felt compelled to try it on. Most wearable technology is clunky and tech focused. CSR has wearable tech that is fashion oriented and fitting with people’s personal style.

The idea that you can take jewelry or branded fashion items and make them have wearable technology capable resonates well with attendees this year at the conference, especially with women. The technology chipset can be added to any item of jewelry from a necklace, to a bracelet or even a ring. Remote Control Your Hearing Aid From Your Smartphone or Tablet at CES

Chris Montera, the Geekymedic, guest host for Health Tech Weekly talked to the folks from Siemens about their new connected hearing aids and how you can control them and use them in association with other devices like your smartphone and tablet. The controller programs for hearing aids give the user flexibility to dial in their hearing aids to each unique and specific situation in which they find themselves.

The best part of using a mobile device like an iPhone or Android phone to control your hearing aids is that you can do it without anyone know that you’re doing it or even revealing that you’re hearing impaired. You’ll just look like you’re texting like anyone else and not fiddling with your ears or holding an odd looking remote control up to your ear. The connection is via bluetooth with the MiniTek remote controls which then communicate with the hearing aids via inductive technology.

Kolibree Connected, Electric Toothbrush Monitors Your Oral Health Habits

Kolibree_toothbrushKolibree brought something brand new to the International CES conference in Las Vegas this year, the first connected, electric toothbrush. They have a normal electric toothbrush but it helps monitor your health by tracking how you brush your teeth in much the same way connected fitness devices track activity. Families can also create different profiles on their mobile app so that the kids can compete with each other on how well they brush their teeth.

Health Tech Weekly guest host Chris Montera, the Geekymedic, got together with the folks at Kolibree at the CES Unveiled event this year as CES 2014. They were showing off their electric toothbrush prototype for the media there. This type of connected health and wellness device is what we are looking for over at CES this year so stay tuned here to TPN.tv for more segments from all the events and exhibitors worth seeing at CES.

The Kolibree connected toothbrush will be available this summer and will retail for between $99 and $199. The app is available for free and connects to the family toothbrushes by bluetooth. Pebble, Google Glass Apps with Mercedes Benz

Mercedes Benz is working with the wearable technology in helping you drive better, safer. People who have a Pebble watch, for example, gives you customized functions via your wrist. You can stop music, change temperature and more — all dependent on what functions you program into the watch.

The Pebble app also contains an alert system. Low fuel, low tire pressure, and emergency issues Pebble will alert you with that. When the iPhone disconnects from the car, the Pebble changes to “Walking mode” so you can view more information. The watch will locate your car for you, tell you if the doors are locked, and a lot more.

Mercedes Benz also has an app for Google Glass, although that app has different functions. The Walking mode is present, but other alerts are suppressed to avoid text and driving issues.
