Isonea’s Asthma Sense App & Airsonea Device Change Asthma Management at CES

While there, Chris stopped by the Isonea booth to look at their innovative asthma management and monitoring app for your mobile phone. The Asthma Sense app helps asthma sufferers track their episodes and monitor what is triggering their asthma attacks. The goal of the app is to help patients manage the asthma plan put in place by their health care provider.

iSonea is a leader in the development of mobile health devices for the management of asthma, COPD and other chronic breathing conditions. iSonea’s proprietary apps, software and devices will help people monitor the symptoms of their conditions, increase their awareness of risk of attack, adhere to their medication plans, improve outcomes and reduce healthcare expenditures. Dexcom Innovates with Continuous Blood Glucose Monitoring at CES

The Dexcom G4 Platinum glucose monitor is the all-new Continuous Glucose Monitor featuring an extended 20 foot wireless range, glucose trends on a video monitor in vibrant color and a sleek and small receiver available in three colors – Classic Black, Ocean Blue, and Tickled Pink.

Continuous glucose monitoring is important for diabetes patients because their bodies lack the ability to monitor and regulate their glucose levels on their own. With the new “Share Cradle,” the uses can insert their wireless monitor for charging and also upload their monitoring data on their connected mobile device to up to 5 people. These can be family caregivers like a parent or adult child as well as health care professionals caring for the patient. The follower app allows those care givers to see what is going on with their loved one in real time via the direct connection with the continuous blood glucose monitor.

United Healthcare Digital Initiatives for Ongoing Patient Health

Tom Paul from United Healthcare talks with Chris about how their customers want to engage with them via digital channels.

Patients want to monitor their health, learn about healthy initiatives and treatment alternatives, and get their insurance information via online and digital channels. Because of this, United Healthcare is involved in numerous initiatives to encourage healthy behaviors and communities through digital means. These include programs like their Dance, Dance, Revolution game programs and contests in community schools and health education programs promoted online.

One new digital initiative they recently announced is “My Easy Book.” This new program allows users to look up a healthcare provider, schedule an appointment and pay any fees or copays, all online. Another new program is centered around providing high quality, informative and interesting online education for diabetes patients. The best part is that United Healthcare is providing many of these services to both members and non-members, a clear indicator of their commitment to ongoing community health and wellness. The Vision Council Advances Technology for Healthy Eyes and Eyewear

Maintaining healthy eyes through better designed eyewear is a passion for them. Chris Montera, guest correspondent for the Health Tech Weekly podcast chats with Mike in the Vision Council booth at the International CES show this year and they discuss how people can improve their eye health with the use of new, high-tech coatings for their corrective lenses, prolonging their eyesight.

One of the big things today in eye care  is what they call HEV or High Energy Violet light. Studies have shown that there’s a correlation between that and age-related macular degeneration by not blocking that light range out. Many of our computer screens put out a lot of this blue light range and it can cause damage to your eyes if it’s not filtered out by your lenses. Even people who do not use glasses could benefit through the long-term use of an HEV coating on a set of clear, non-corrective lenses to protect their eyes before the deterioration begins.

Tinké by Zensorium

TinkéTinké by Zensorium measures heart rate, respiratory rate, blood oxygen level and heart rate variability. It compiles the heart rate, respiratory rate and blood oxygen level information into a score know as the Vita Index. The Zen index uses the heart rate variability to quantify your stress level. It is a small device, 1.65 long inches by 1.26 wide by .0275 deep which fits easily into a pocket or purse. It works by plugging it into the iPhone and then placing your thumb on the device for 30 seconds. The iPhone powers it and so there is no need for batteries.

The device is $119 and comes in a variety of colors.The Tinké is available through the Zensorium website. They are looking for distribution partners. The app is free and available in the iTunes store. You can share your results thru the Tinké network or other social networks. Within the Tinké network you add friends and post comments on their scores. You also have the option to keep your information private.

Using DECT technology, it has a range of 600 ft and provides a speakerphone system and speed dial. Incoming calls can also be answered by the device, and features audio caller ID, allowing screening of calls.
