AlessiTab Brings Tablets to the Kitchen

AlessiTab
AlessiTab

Most of the tablets we saw at CES were meant to be for those on the go. The AlessiTab is actually meant to stay in the home – The Kitchen to be exact. It’s unique design automatically acts as a stand in multiple variations. The AlessiTab sets on a charging pad so you can keep the device ready for use.

Running on Android, the AlessiTab can hold all your favorite recipes, video on how to make favorite dishes or just to surf the internet. Use the tablet to remote control the TV or better yet, pull out the antenna and the AlessiTab also becomes a Digital TV receiver.

The Italian design makes it a sleek and stylish item to have around the house. The gravitational center knows which way the tablet is set.

Switch to Portable RAID Solution with PopDrive

PopDrive
PopDrive

If you have a USB external drive and not backing up your data from it, you are putting your data at risk. A USB hard drive could crash just as easily as a Notebook or Desktop hard drive – if not, faster.

PopDrive has another solution. Dual drives in a RAID 0 configuration. One drive collects and the other drive mirrors. That way if the first drive breaks down, the other one takes over.

PopDrive is a drive that can work with USB 2.0 or eSATA. It takes 2 – 2.5 inch drives and transfer up to 3GB/s (eSATA). The drives mirror when connected to the PC or Mac.

Perfect for home or office, this drive could be a great asset to hold data for clients. It’s size makes it perfect for those who have portable offices.

JCB Has Rough Phones, World’s Fastest Back Hoe

JCB
JCB

We stopped by JCB booth not only to see their toughest phones in the business, but also to check out the World’s Fastest Back Hoe. We geek out in many ways…

The Back Hoe goes 60 MPH on paved roads. It has a full suspension system and ABS brakes. Weighing in at 15 tons, this 6.7 liter diesel Back Hoe can lift 2 tons and dig 13 feet deep.

And it can drag a JCB phone for miles…

JCB Toughphones are meant for the worksite. They can be dropped from higher altitudes, smashed into more than the average consumer phone and still be functional. JCB tests all phones to impact, pressure, vibration, temperature, shock and even a Salt spray test!

They even have lightweight phones that float on water. That way if you drop the phone, you are not doing any deep sea diving to go retrieve it.

Movea Sensors Track Movements, Improve Golf Swing

Motion Pod
Motion Pod

Movea is a company where you most likely won’t hear of the name, but you use their products. Gyromouse is one of these products.

Movea takes care of the motion sensors inside some of your electronics. Screen pointers may use their technology to work. But Movea is working on some pretty cool stuff outside of that.

Imagine a golf club that you could pair with a computer to track your swing. Maybe a baseball bat, helmet, ball or other item. It could be connected to a car.

If you have an iPhone4, you can download their app ($1.99) to turn your phone into a gyroscopic mouse.

In this video, we take a look at the Motion Pod and how it could be connected to everyday items.

iRobot Scooba cleans your Hardwood Floors

Over the past couple of years we have watched the iRobot line of products expand. At CES 2011 they were showing off the iRobot Scooba, it essentially is a mini iRobot designed to clean hardwood and tiled floors. Specifically they showed it cleaning the bathroom floor.

I immediately wanted one. With a reservoir for cleaning solution and a separate reservoir for the sucked up dirty water this product from iRobot is the perfect cleaning device for those jobs you really hate to do.

Samsung Brings WiFi Built-in to Cameras with SH100

Samsung SH100
Samsung SH100

Ever since digital cameras came along, I wondered when they would get a direct connection to the computer so you can click and send without having to clean out a card. Technology took us to cards that had WiFi on them, but now Samsung has a camera that had built-in WiFi that does even more than I expected.

The SH100 is the newest camera in the Samsung line. It has a 14.2 MegaPixel sensor with 5x zoom, but more important – Once you take a picture, you can send it to your favorite place. A hard drive, Facebook, Twitter, iPad or where ever.

What I really was surprised about was the fact you could use your Smartphone as a proxy viewfinder. If you need to hold the camera up in the air, the camera will send the video to your Smartphone so you can see what you are taking.

The SH100 will be available for $199.99 in March.
