The Next Gen of FLIR has Amazingly Superior Upgrades

FLIR SystemsFLIR is known for their line of thermal imaging products, including a couple of really cool cameras. The cameras have many practical purposes and are used by contractors and electricians as well as the occasional ghost hunter. The FLIR ONE connects to your smartphone and turns it into a thermal imaging camera. This year at CES, they have announced the next generation of one of their most popular items.

The FLIR ONE Gen 3 has all of the features that you loved about its predecessor with the addition of the ONEFIT Adjustable Connector. This allows you to use the camera even with your rugged phone case. Previously, you would have needed to add a cable or extra connector, or remove the rugged case all together, which isn’t always easy to accomplish. But now you just turn the dial and you can adjust the connector to the exact size that will give you a custom fit for your case. This is extremely helpful on a job site where the rugged cases are required equipment.

The FLIR ONE PRO has four times the thermal resolution, as well as the best of FLIR Vivid IR. It’s perfect for the professional who wants the best possible thermal image quality they can get. Other features include multiple spot meters so the operator can call out the temp in multiple places and images can be uploaded to the FLIR Cloud where there are tools to assist in quickly generating custom reports.

Both of these units will be shipping in the middle of 2017 with prices starting at $199. Explore the options on their website.

It’s Fascinating Tech When Thermal Takes Flight

FLIR SystemsDrones have been captivating us for years. They now come in all shapes and sizes and we just can’t seem to get enough of them. We love flying the consumer models and learning about the large commercial and military grade versions. When video cameras were added they became not only more popular but much more useful, especially for business applications. For companies like realtors and insurance companies, and even for police departments, video equipped drones have made many jobs easier. The folks at FLIR realized that adding thermal imaging into the mix could increase effectiveness in many ways.

These highly cooled cameras that are super sensitive to any thermal radiation and can take regular video to a whole new level. Large scale equipment can be inspected easily to see if either heat or cold is escaping, and they can also be used at night for various search and rescue situations. The FLIR DUO is a compact, lightweight, dual-sensor thermal and visible light imager that is designed for drones. It has the same size and shape as the most popular action cameras for easy adaptation to existing drone accessories. Duo’s features include on-board recording and real-time remote control of camera functions over PWM – plus MSX multi-spectral imaging enhancement. There is also a second model called the FLIR DUO R which comes with a fully radiometric variant and delivers accurate, calibrated temperature measurements in every pixel.

Both models can be operated either separately or on a drone and power up through the USB port. And the mobile app and built in Bluetooth make setup a breeze. They are great units for drone manufacturers to add into their lineups and are also the perfect way for consumers to start playing with thermal imaging on their own drones.

Both versions are available now with prices starting at $999.99 from the FLIR
website. Also, don’t forget to check out some of their other great products on Amazon.

This Superior 360° Camera Will Blow Your Mind

Panono 360 CameraPanono started off developing a spherical 360° degree camera that could be thrown up in the air and at its highest point, would snap a picture. And although the camera can still do that, the endeavor has turned into so much more. Panono is now proud to boast that their 360° camera has the best resolution of any other on the market today, at an impressive 16k by 8k. The resulting photos are amazingly sharp, even when zoomed in.

Inside, there are a total of 36 camera modules, each with 3 megapixels. After the images are captured, they are blended together, seamlessly in their cloud. The resulting pictures can then be shared on social media, to your own website or even used on VR headsets. And although they are great for the avid traveler and picture taker, they are also perfect for commercial applications. Retailers or restaurants can take a picture of their locations to be added to their websites and to show up in web searches. They are perfect for real estate agents for adding great, multi room shots of their listings. Even the construction and insurance industries would have great use for an exceptional camera such as this. The 360° shot will draw customers in and the crisp detail will make the sale.

The camera is about the size of a grapefruit and weighs approximately one pound. It retails for $1,999 from their website and comes with the case. There are also add on accessories available, including a messenger bag and selfie stick, with a tripod coming soon. And don’t forget to check out their featured images from some of users who choose to make their photos public.

Make Your Outdoor Adventures Better with the New GoPro HERO5

GoPro Hero5The product category of action cameras has never been more popular, and the company that started it all is GoPro. This year, the company is showing off a greatly enhanced set of products in their popular Hero line. Both cameras in the line offer UHD, or 4k, video recording, and are both waterproof out of the box. That means no more need for additional cases to make them waterproof. They also offer built-in stabilization, as well as voice control, so you can ensure there is no jitter to your recordings when you first begin.

Where the HERO5 Black separates itself from the HERO5 Session is a touchscreen on the back. That means that you can get full camera control without having to use the basic controls. You also get GPS, meaning that your photos and videos are tagged with location so you know exactly where you were during a recording.

The HERO5 Session is available for $299, while the HERO5 Black is available for $399. Like all GoPro cameras, there are also tons of accessories like batteries, cases, stands and more available.

Panasonic Lumix ZS100 4K Camera

Panasonic LS100The new Panasonic Lumix ZS100 comes with a raft of features that make it a little bit different from the average pocket snapper (and a price to match). Daniel chats with Darin Pepple from Imaging with Panasonic to review the ZS100’s features.

To start with, the ZS100 has a 1″ 20 megapixel sensor, which is huge for a camera in this class and gives good depth of field control. And then there’s a whole bunch of tricks such as taking a still from a 4K video or a post focus mode which captures a series of apparently out-of-focus shots from which you then choose the feature to focus on and everything snaps into focus on that point.

The camera comes with a companion app for smartphones and there’s wifi connectivity built in, so you can see on the smartphone (or tablet) what the camera sees.

Available in mid-March for US$699 online and from good photography stores. Outside of the US, the camera may be called the TZ100.

Vivitar Gets More From Life at CES

PrintVivitar has a long history in photography and cinematography going back to the middle of the previous century. Constantly reinventing itself, Vivitar’s latest iteration is to focus on the fun side of consumer electronics. Marlo and Todd enjoy the new cameras from Vivitar with Director of Marketing, Melissa Hoistion.

First up is the Vivitar DVR988HD 360 Cam which will feature two 180 degree lenses on the front and back of the camera, taking a full 360 degree view. Built-in video stitching software merges the two views into a seamless panoramic image of the journey, whether on a roller-coaster or a scenic bicycle ride. The 360 Cam will record full HD 1080 x 1080 pixel video at 30 frames per second, capture still images at 12.1 MP resolution and shoot about four hours of video on a single battery charge. There’s 200MB of internal storage and a micro SD slot for an additional 256 GB. The Cam will be US$169 when it comes out in Q2.

Next is the new Vivitar MicroCam Air DVR939HD is a miniature life-blogging camera with a 160-degree lens and records full 1080p HD video and 10MP still photos. With very simple controls, the resulting footage can be viewed using a free companion app on smartphone or tablet and there’s a range of clips and mounts to attach the camera to clothing, bikes and helmets. Expected on sale in Q2 for only US$79, I could see myself getting one of these as the MicroCam can record key moments without intruding on the experience.

Brinno Brings Impressive Roster of Cameras to CES

Brinno LogoIt’s kind of cliche now that nearly every moment of our lives is captured by a camera somewhere. Whether or not that’s a good or bad thing depends upon your own point of view. Regardless, camera manufacturer Brinno is bringing innovative new cameras to market that can help anyone get the footage they desire.

Chris R. Adams from Brinno stopped off to speak with Todd and Don at this year’s CES. Chris brought along four new devices and was ready to show them off. First up is Brinno’s PanLapse camera base. PanLapse isn’t a camera itself. Rather, it’s designed to hold a number of different cameras. Everything from smartphones to dSLR’s. PanLapse relies on programming from the Brinno smartphone app. This programming tells the device how and when to pan thru its field of motion, giving the attached camera the ability to pan and sweep as needed. PanLapse is on the market now for $130.

Next up is the TLC120 time-lapse camera. TLC120 is a small, weatherproof, HDR time-lapse camera that can take up to 270,000 pictures and store them on a 32GB SD card. TLC120 can also stream images to a smartphone or computer. The camera works over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi and it comes with a built-in tripod stand. TLC120 can be set for use in starlight, daylight, low light, and other scenarios. TLC120 is available for purchase for $299.

Brinno has also brought a special package to CES called the BCC200 Pro. The BCC200 is a higher-end version of the company’s TLC120 camera and it’s being sold as part of a package exclusively thru B&H Photo. Suggested price for the BCC200 is $239.

The last item Chris had to share this year is Brinno’s PHV1325 PeepHole Viewer camera. The name pretty much says it all in this case. PHV1325 comes with a peephole replacement kit for your door. When you install the PHV1325 camera, it’ll record any activity it detects at your door and it can even send that video directly to your smartphone or computer. PHV1325 works with a system of sensors that can be placed on your doorbell, under a doormat, detect when someone knocks on the door or simply walks in front of your door. When the PeepHole Viewer detects movement at your door, it can instantly notify you and send you images of what’s going on. The device carries a retail price of $199.
