Amp Brings the Theater Experience to Tablets at CES

OIO logoOIO has created a high tech speaker case for iPads and other tablets. It is called Amp. It folds up and becomes a case when not in use. The case is made from precision aluminum and comes with an adjustable built in stand. The speakers can be set to different angles.

Scott spoke with Gregg Davis from OIO who shared details about this innovative product. The tablet and speakers connect via Bluetooth 4.0. The speakers keep the separation of the 2 channels, left and right, like you would expect if you were watching a movie in a theater. They provide double the volume of devices like the Mini Jambox or Beats Pill.

A single charge enables the speakers to work for up to 7 hours. A tablet can snap in and out of the case with ease. The sound from the speakers can fill a room. Or, you can use your earbuds or headset instead.

OIO is currently taking preorders for Amp. It is expected to become available in April of 2015 for a street price of $199.00.

Phonotonic Makes Music While You Move at CES

PhonotonicIt’s one thing to make music. It’s another to react to that music. But the Phonotonic turns a person’s movements into real time music, changing the entire dynamic of the music creation process.

Scott spoke to Nicolas, a representative for Phonotonic. Nicolas performed an upbeat demo of his product, showing how the movements of his body changed the sounds produced by two Phonotonics, one for rhythm, another for melody. Phonotonic uses Bluetooth to transmit data to a smartphone app which then converts that data into musical sounds.

Phonotnic is currently only available in France but the product will receive a wider roll out as the year goes on.

PM Screens Bring Innovative Displays to CES

PM Screen logoMany of us have become very adept at avoiding commercials and advertisements. People pay for services like Netflix in order to avoid having to look at ads. We barely give a glance to billboards or product displays. PM Screen has come up with an innovative way to attract people to products.

PM Screen partnered with Altec Lansing at CES 2015 and to help roll out their new Boom Jacket wireless speaker. PM Screen creates custom animation for a project and uses screens that can interact with each other.

PM screen can also create much larger displays. They can put their 3D projections on buildings, use them in retail spaces, or at large events and concerts. They bring a lot of creativity to whatever they work on. What they do seems quite magical.

Polaroid Updates Its Iconic Brand at CES

Polaroid logoPolaroid is an iconic brand in consumer electronics. For years, the company’s name was synonymous with instant-print cameras. But now that digital photos have become the norm, what has Polaroid done to bring itself into the 21st century?

To answer that question, Scott spoke with Joseph at the Polaroid Mobile booth. Joseph demonstrated two new Google-certified Android-based Polaroid phones. The first phone is the Polaroid Flip. The Flip comes with an 8-megapixel back-facing camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. It’s expected to retail for $179.99.

The second Polaroid Mobile phone is called the Selfie. This device uses an innovative “spinning” 13-megapixel camera that can be turned to use as a back or front-facing camera. The Selfie will go on sale for $199.

Both devices will run Google-certified “stock” Android 5.0 and both cameras will be unlocked so they can be used with most international GSM carriers.

Add a Full-Sized Keyboard to your Mobile with TREWGrip at CES

TREWGrip logoPeople tend to use their smartphones differently than they do their desktop or laptop computers. It’s easy to take notes or photos on a mobile device. However, if your project requires a lot of typing, you’ll probably want to utilize a larger keyboard. TREWGrip provides an efficient solution that combines the best aspects of mobile devices with the easier to use keyboards that come with computers.

Scott met up with Mark Parker from TREWGrip. The TREWGrip is a handheld keyboard, air mouse, and game controller. It can be used with smart TVs and desktop computers. They took a regular keyboard, split it, and rotated the keys so that people could hold the keyboard in their hands and type at the same time. It is still a QWERTY keyboard, so your muscle memory from typing will remain the same.

The back of the TREWGrip contains a built-in mobile dock. Put a docking plate onto your smartphone (or inside the back of its case) and the smartphone can now adhere to the TREWGrip and be paired via Bluetooth. In addition to a smartphone, you can dock a mini tablet that is up to 5 and a half inches wide.

Now, you can use the TREWGrip to type and take notes directly into the mobile device. There is a map of the keys on the back of the device for those who are not “touch typists.” Press a key, and that key lights up for you on the map. The TREWGrip also lets you move the mouse on your device by tilting the keyboard. TREWGrip will be shipping in March of 2015 for a target price of $249.00.

Ultra-D is the New 3-D at CES

Ultra D Logo3-D TV and gaming has been touted as the next big thing for years in consumer electronics. But the technology hasn’t ever really caught on. One factor that’s slowed the adoption of in-home 3-D is the fact that users have to wear special glasses to experience 3-D. StreamTV Networks hopes that its new Ultra-D product will become the standard for in-home 3-D displays.

Nick spoke to Zach, Games Director for StreamTV Networks. The pair talked about the company’s Ultra-D offering. StreamTV Networks has partnered with multiple game developers, including Epic Games, makers of the Unreal gaming engine. Zach explained that Ultra-D is a glasses-free 3-D system that uses a blended lenticular design that works with a 140-degree viewing angle so it looks great from anywhere in the room. (When a viewer moves out of the range of 3-D, the picture changes to a standard 2-D display.) Ultra-D is currently only available to developers but it’s likely to make its way to consumer products soon.
