Helen Gordon: The Woman Behind the Greensheet by Rebecca Blakeley
https://www.amazon.com/Helen-Gordon-Woman-Behind-Greensheet/dp/1475987056
In 1969, Helen Gordon moved to Houston with her new husband, Robert DeYoung. A no-nonsense, pragmatic mother of three with the heart of a musician and the soul of a painter, Helen was determined to be her own boss by owning and operating her own company.
It didn’t take her long to find success. Helen started the Greensheet, a free advertising tabloid with classified ads and a list of business services, in 1970. Within eight years, she expanded it to five Texas cities without the help of bank loans. But she lived in a good ol’ boy atmosphere, in which long lunches over dry martinis were the norm and women were generally absent from the boardroom.
Even so, Helen was undeterred. She was determined to build a company that would prosper, and prosper it did. By 2012, the Greensheet had grown to a circulation of 650,000 and appeared within four Texas cities. Today, her company is a household name and continues to be one of the most successful classified tabloids in the state.
Her irrepressible optimism, sense of humor, and vivacious personality served her well in her personal and professional life. As told by her daughter, Rebecca, Helen Gordon: The Woman Behind the Greensheet is Helen’s inspiring true story.

Science Nonfiction: Behind the Scenes in University Research by Prof Darren Lipomi
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0GYGPWWPF
Every year, the United States spends roughly $60 billion—about 1 percent of the federal budget—on university research. Though this research has far-reaching effects and benefits the public at large, most people are unaware of the inner workings of academic research. Who bears the risk for new discoveries? What role do graduate students play in innovation? What are the shortcomings of academic research, and can the system be fixed?
In Science Nonfiction: Behind the Scenes in University Research, Darren J. Lipomi, PhD, a scientist and educator, offers readers an insider’s perspective of scientific discovery in academia. Drawing on two decades of experience in elite labs and universities, he reveals a system few outsiders ever see. By examining his own career trajectory—from humble beginnings to prestigious universities like Harvard and Stanford to academic leadership—Lipomi illustrates the impact that incentives, power, and politics have on knowledge production.
Science Nonfiction captures both the ingenuity and absurdities of life in the lab. With this book, Lipomi hopes to shed light on the often-overlooked human side of scientific research, purporting that while the system is certainly imperfect, there is hope for a better future. Indeed, even with its immense flaws, academic research represents a significant societal investment in the future. As this investment faces greater scrutiny, limitations, and political interference, understanding the utility of academic research becomes more important than ever before.
About the author Darren J. Lipomi, PhD, is chair and professor of chemical and sustainability engineering at University of Rochester. Lipomi earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry with a minor in physics as a Beckman Scholar at Boston University in 2005, and in 2010, he attained his PhD in chemistry at Harvard University, working alongside Professor George M. Whitesides. His research interests include molecular engineering of electronic and electroactive polymers, particularly the mechanical properties of semiconducting polymers for flexible solar cells, biomechanical sensors, and phenomena that occur at the intersection of materials chemistry with human perception and cognition. He is the recipient of the AFOSR Young Investigator award, the NIH Director’s New Innovator Award, the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE), and the NSF BRITE-Pivot award. He hosts a podcast, Molecular Podcasting with Darren Lipomi, which has an associated YouTube channel, Darren_Lipomi. The first book by Robert Maker is his masterpiece, Nutrition and The Brain: What Schools and Parents Must Know, published in 2026 by Expert Book Publishing. Based on over half a century of personal study of children in the classroom, gym, clinic, and school throughout the United States, the book combines both lived observation and scientific studies to show how nutrition can significantly influence brain health, learning and behavior. The book has a very intimate sense of dedication to his late wife Sandy whose affection, support and unrelenting encouragement kept him going in his life and also in his writing.
Sandy is still in the strength of her marriage of close to thirty years, and Robert Maker is still with her, and her partnership can be seen in every page. Her memory is respected together with families and children with the affected life that came out of avoidable health issues and false information. This is not just a scientific work to Robert, but a mission, a mission of love and responsibility, and the hope of leaving a good legacy to the future generations
The book is also dedicated to the families, teachers, and children, who have been affected by the lack of nutritious food and the presence of food additives in their systems. It emphasizes their bravery and stamina, and delivers an easy to understand and comprehend explanation of the complicated neurological mechanisms to the reader.

The Chris Voss Show Podcast – IS HE OR ISN’T HE? A Response to God’s Not Dead by Cliff Somers

IS HE OR ISN’T HE? A Response to God’s Not Dead by Cliff Somers
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BGKZBPL9
The book God’s Not Dead by Pastor Rice Broocks so engaged Cliff’s interest and his disagreement with its content that he undertook to write a response (or rebuttal). This book is it. Dealing with such diverse issues as cosmology, theology, and evolution, as well as an examination of what the Gospels of the Bible really say, this book is argumentative and opinionated. However, Cliff respects the pastor (as he refers to Broocks) and has tried to be respectful in his approach. As the book states early on, Cliff is an atheist but not a proselytizer. You may be interested in the origin of the universe, the idea of the tuned universe, the dogma known as creationism, or that known as intelligent design, the question of the meaning to religion of Darwin’s theory of natural selection, or the actual words of the Gospels. If so, this book will intrigue you no matter which side of the fence you find yourself on. Come on in, the water’s fine.
Cliff Somers was born in Portland, Maine, a long time ago and lived there until he was 15 years old. He then moved with his family to Florida, which he has claimed as his home state ever since. Cliff spent three years as an enlisted man in the U.S. Army Special Forces and went to Vietnam on an “A” team. He then received his undergraduate degree in English and a law degree from the University of Florida. Thereafter, he served for four years in the Army as a JAG officer where he served as a prosecutor (trial counsel) and prosecuted a nationally known murder case called U.S. v. MacDonald. That case was the subject of a televised series on FX in 2022, in which Cliff appears. He also served as a military judge. From 1972 until 2014, Cliff worked in Tampa as a civil trial lawyer with cases all over the west coast of Florida. In the practice of law, Cliff became a board-certified civil trial lawyer, and late in his practice, he was also a Florida Supreme Court certified mediator. He was listed during his practice in Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, Who’s Who in American Law, and Who’s Who in America. Because he was English major, Cliff imagined himself as a famous novelist but discovered he lacked one asset for that task: he couldn’t write dialogue for beans. This small problem led him to write the non-fiction (assuming that politics is not fiction) books and the poetry book shown on this website. Cliff lives with his wife, Jennie, in Citrus Park, a suburb of Tampa.

God is the greatest UNLESS factor known to mankind. Many just don’t know it. To those of us who have realized His great UNLESS factor understand the meaning behind this great truth. The book UNLESS details those events that have taken place in our lives and helps us comprehend the depths of those momentous times. UNLESS God the Father became human we could never know the God of eternity as our eternal Father. The birth of Jesus Christ into our world is the greatest UNLESS historical moment our world has ever known. This is where every human being’s UNLESS God moments begin. Kevin was born in Indiana, raised in Michigan, has served the Lord in Michigan, Massachusetts, North Carolina and Delaware for 40 years. Kevin has assumed the responsibility of three Christian schools facing uphill battles for survival. He also has started a Christian school, as well as serving two churches as their youth pastor. Many young people from these schools and youth groups have gone into full time vocational church work and many have continued loving their Lord and Savior after high school. He considers teaching God’s Word one of his greatest privileges and honor thus far in his life. The book UNLESS will take you on a journey through life’s exceptional situations that could only be explained as God personally intervening to make a difference in those situations.
About the author Kevin lives in Middletown, DE with his best friend & loving wife, Cindy. They’ve served the Lord in various ministries & capacities in Michigan, Massachusetts, North Carolina and Delaware for over 40 years. They have three grown children and six grandchildren. Kevin’s life’s passage is Psalm 63:1-3, “O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water. I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you.” “The books I’ve written are aimed at the heart and not just the head. I pray they will be blessed my the Lord to bring you into a closer walk and relationship with Him. You will find in all three of my books the process of growing your faith. What makes faith fall apart isn’t just doubt, but becoming too certain of the earthly and removing confidence in the eternal. I believe they will be a tremendous blessing to you as you read through each thought provoking page.”

How employers can compete in a challenging labor market—by hiring differently, redesigning job quality, and rethinking their government relations strategies.
From two leaders in business and workforce development with a proven track record in innovative workforce strategies.
Over the past ten years, the U.S. labor market has been buffeted, with demand shifting dramatically. At the same time, demographic trends mean that U.S. labor supply will steadily tighten into the coming decade: Relatively fewer native-born workers are entering the workforce; a greater percentage are choosing not to work; and an aging baby boom generation is exiting the workforce. What’s worse, this systemic tightening of the US labor market has been exacerbated by the Trump administration’s decision to dramatically constrain immigration, the primary source of recent labor market growth.
Welcome to the “forever-tight” labor market. In Help Wanted, Jerry Rubin and Steven Dawson combine their 80 years of experience in management and workforce development to offer employers an “employee-focused competitive strategy.” This strategy includes a wide range of practical, well-researched tools and detailed case studies from a breadth of employers that will help readers compete for talent and retain a productive workforce.
Since the underlying cause of the tightening labor supply is structural, employers—whether for-profit, nonprofit, or governmental—must respond in kind. They too must undertake structural changes in finding, hiring, and retaining workers.
Now equal in importance to an organization’s customer-service strategy, an employee-focused strategy is no longer simply a competitive advantage—it is fast becoming a competitive necessity.
About the author Jerry Rubin is a Senior Advisor at the Harvard Project on the Workforce, a Foundation Fellow at the Eastern Bank Foundation and Co-Chair of the MassSkills Coalition. Most recently, he was CEO and President of JVS-Boston, a 250-employee organization that consults directly to businesses seeking job candidates recruited and trained by JVS.
About the author Steven L. Dawson was founder and President of PHI, which consults on job-quality redesign to a range of private long-term care businesses and public healthcare/employment agencies. Earlier, he was founder and President of The ICA Group, which consults to and finances employee‐owned enterprises nationwide.

Once a strong and active man, he was suddenly shuffling instead of walking, forgetting words mid-sentence, and losing hope as one doctor after another said the same frustrating words: “We do not know what’s wrong. Come back in six months.” Desperate for answers. Dave and his family faced an impossible decision: take a huge medical risk with no guarantees or accept a life with no quality. With faith as their anchor, they chose to move forward, placing their trust in modern medicine and the power of prayer. On September 20, 2021, something incredible happened. After a complex brain surgery, Dave woke up to a complete transformation—his walking, balance and cognitive function fully restored and no more incontinence. You had a miracle.” This compelling and faith-filled memoir is more than just a medical journey—it’s a powerful testimony of hope, perseverance, and undeniable power of prayer. Human nature has a tendency to create rules, expectations, and rituals with regard to religion. Christianity is the one and only faith that offers redemption without adherence to a set of rules. For two thousand years, it has transcended nationalities, languages, and cultures. It has waned throughout the ages when it has required adherence to extraneous rules or rituals. It has thrived in eras of its return to the central message: By grace are we saved through faith alone.
Church attendance is in decline in the United States and Europe in all denominations. A majority of Evangelicals are affiliating with extreme-right culture, which has sparked some concern about the nature of what it means to be a follower of Christ. Social media, technology, and mass media contribute to complicating the basic tenet of salvation by faith.
This book offers a return to the basic tenets of faith that were critical to the formation and expansion of Christianity for two thousand years. Hopefully, it will serve as a guide to return believers to the central ideals of Christianity while also amplifying and deepening the faith of the reader.

Having isolated myself from the Lord, I was spiritually drowning, tired and worn from life’s pressures. I was finished. No longer willing to go through the motions, I was ready to turn my back, walk away from God, and never look back. And yet I said one last prayer, hoping to receive something to grab me up out of my despair. Alone, depressed, and silent in my chair, the Holy Spirit simply said, “I hear your cry.”
He rescued me from self-destruction, and placed my feet on solid ground. My journey back into His presence has been a long but rewarding trek. He revealed my heart, and I had to confess, repent, and return for more instruction because it was true and done with love. I am humbled that He took so much time with me. He is my great I Am!
My chronicled inspirational and poetic journey back into His presence was my revelation, and I now know that I was not alone in my drowning. So many people feel unworthy, lost, pressured, or isolated, and want to be comforted by personally knowing that God hears their cry as well. God wants to free you from feeling unworthy. He wants to tell you exactly where you are in Him and lead you into a closer relationship with Him. This book encourages you to listen, obey, and be responsible to the Holy Spirit. You are not alone!
“I hear your cry” ushered me into His peace. It is more than enough.

The Art of the Steal: Trump and the Economic Hit Man Presidency by John Perkins
https://www.amazon.com/Art-Steal-Trump-Economic-Presidency/dp/B0G7VFBY21
Since World War II, US presidents of both parties have relied on an economic hit man strategy.
They have used the four pillars of that strategy (fear, debt, anxiety over insufficiency, and divide and conquer) to control other nations and enrich a growing oligarchy.
In the groundbreaking Confessions of an Economic Hit Man trilogy, John Perkins exposed the complex, expansive, and clandestine global network that serves the interests of powerful corporate, financial, and political entities. In The Art of the Steal, he reveals its most dangerous evolution.
Donald Trump represents a historic shift. He is the first US president to turn the economic hit man strategy into a personal brand and governing style. He has ascended the four pillars, brought the playbook home, and reversed the march toward the American ideal of liberty, equality, justice, democracy, opportunity, and an individualism that supports family and community. At the same time, he has forced what was hidden into the open.
This book explains how this happened, why it matters, and what each of us can do to turn things around.
Both warning and blueprint, it offers a pathway to renewing the American ideal—and using it to model a new global ideal.
About the author John Perkins is the author of 12 books on global intrigue, economics, shamanism, and transformation, including “Confessions of an Economic Hit Man,” and “Touching the Jaguar.” They have been on the New York Times bestseller list for more than 70 weeks, sold millions of copies, and are published in at least 38 languages. His latest, “Message from Pleiades,” is the story of a life-and-world-changing experience in an ancient Mayan city; it is his first novel (written under the pen name of J P Moody).
As chief economist at a major consulting firm, John advised the World Bank, UN, Fortune 500 corporations, US and other governments. He regularly speaks at universities and economic and environmental forums and is a founder of the Pachamama Alliance and Dream Change, non profit organizations that partner with indigenous people to protect environments and offer programs to change the destructive ways of industrial societies.

Haystack Full of Needles: A memoir of research on mechanisms of memory in the decades that defined neuroscience by Louis Neal Irwin

How do we store information in the brain? Is memory a thing in a place, like a specific molecule in a particular cell? Or does learning require a process in a population, like neurons firing in a specific pattern for each experience? This combination of memoir and history tells the story of how the mechanisms of memory were gradually revealed, through biographical vignettes of the scientists who set out to solve the riddle of memory, including the author?s own efforts as he was coming of age as a scientist. It shows how individual goals intertwine with the technologies at hand to push scientific knowledge forward, often erratically, and always in the context of social forces and private ups and downs. Not only a compelling personal story with the war in Vietnam, civil rights movement, and downfall of two presidents as backdrop, this is a lucid explanation of brain function for the nonscientist and valuable contribution to the history of science in the decades that saw neuroscience join molecular biology as the marquee biomedical accomplishments of the twentieth century

Custom Maid Palestine for New World Disorder

The book proposes a two-state solution that will require Arab countries and Israel to redraw their borders to let a Palestinian state take shape with Jerusalem as its capital. Historical Palestine included the territory that Israel, Gaza, West Bank, Lebanon, southern Turkey, Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt occupy today.
The idea that Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank relocate to a new homeland has merit. However, rather than moving to Jordan, Egypt, South Sudan, or other countries in Africa, it could be a newly created state in what has always been part of the Territorial Province of Palestine.
It is well known that the borders of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Jordan, Syria and Israel, were established by the British and French for their own political and economic interests. Therefore, there is no reason these borders cannot be redrawn to accommodate a Palestinian state.
What is essential now is for Palestinians worldwide to unite and advocate for the establishment and global recognition of a Palestinian state that is independent of Hamas and the Palestinian Authority. The proposed Palestinian state deserves serious consideration as it presents the best opportunity to create a viable modern nation that can peacefully coexist with Israel.

NEGOTIATING WITH TRUMP: LESSONS ON POWER, INFLUENCE, AND DEALING WITH EXTREME BARGAINERS by PETER D. JOHNSTON

WHAT MAKES DONALD TRUMP TICK? Is the world negotiating with a madman—or a genius? Is his chaotic approach to influence instinct-driven, or is it a calculated strategy? And did the co-author of The Art of the Deal secure a second presidency because of his negotiation style, or in spite of it?
To endure and flourish in the era of the 47th president, we need more than political commentary. We need a playbook—one that helps us see patterns and analyze for ourselves what’s going on, while empowering us to excel in our own negotiations.
In Negotiating with Trump, Peter D. Johnston applies the objective lens of a negotiation expert to decode President Trump’s tactics. Johnston exposes the mechanics of Trump’s leverage, digging into his personality profile, his mastery of our psychological tendencies, and the coalition building that drives his agenda.
From the boardroom and the international stage to your living room, this is a systematic and entertaining examination of what works, what fails, and what we can learn from Trump’s extreme approaches to negotiation. Whether you are closing a business deal, negotiating conflicts at home, or hoping to influence America’s next steps as a nation, this book will force you to rethink what you know about power, persuasion, and the art of the deal.
About the author Peter D. Johnston is an international negotiation expert, a leading advisor, thinker, practitioner, and negotiation speaker. His bestselling book, “Negotiating with Giants,” relays lessons from his advisory work, research, and history’s most difficult negotiations, ranging from trade deals and hostage-takings to the achievement of Magna Carta. He is also the author of “Negotiating with Trump” (June 2026) and the award-winning novel, “Weapons of Peace” (2019). His negotiation results have been formally recognized by the US Government for their positive economic and social impact, domestically and abroad. In this bound-to-be controversial work of theological scholarship, Oguchi H. Nkwocha, M.D., propounds some fascinating and bold theories about religious beliefs. Rather than support his contentions with an abundance of scriptural quotations, the author skillfully builds the case for his unorthodox views with deductive reasoning.Taking an antifundamentalist stance, he asks readers to reexamine man’s relationship with God. The author reveals how various religions and religious sects function by inventing gods and then assigning those “creations” the qualities of omniscience and omnipotence. Evading the reality of the real Supreme Being, mankind has often manufactured his gods in his own image.Instead of presenting his striking theories in an abstract manner, this writer/philosopher relates the shortcomings of many religions by juxtaposing them with such contemporary issues as homelessness, sexism, and ecology-issues which most religions fail to address squarely, if at all. Dr. Nkwocha’s book is at its most compelling when it dissects the way in which religions have evolved from mankind’s need to understand the complex mysteries of nature.Students of religious history will be eager traveling companions on this journey through times as Nkwocha delves into pagan rituals, the traditional political power of the priesthood, and the manner in which our gods continue to fail us when we seek answers to cosmic enigmas.Whether you are an atheist, an agnostic, or a true believer, this profound treatise offers grounds for enlightened spiritual discussion.

Lessons from a Lost Republic: What Ancient Rome Can Teach Us About This American Moment by Michelle Berenfeld

A lively pocket history of the Roman Republic’s collapse—and its unsettling echoes in our own political moment.
Americans are obsessed with Rome. Billionaires and manosphere pundits wax on about its military might, its gladiators, its emperors, its greatness.
But we’re telling ourselves the wrong story.
In this sharp, eye-opening account, classics professor Michelle Berenfeld redirects our gaze. The Roman Empire isn’t the lesson—the Roman Republic is. Nearly five centuries of representative government, undone by forces that should sound familiar: wealth and power concentrated in the hands of elites, rampant political violence, endless expansionist wars, and a Senate that normalized emergency measures until it had nothing left to protect. One by one, aspiring strongmen seized what the Senate had surrendered, stretching the limits of their legal power, using the military against their own people, undermining elections, and killing their enemies—until one of them, Augustus, gained total control and became an emperor.
Berenfeld’s argument is both clarifying and urgent: Rome’s slide into autocracy was not inevitable—and neither is ours. Smart, spirited, and packed with revelatory detail, Lessons from a Lost Republic is a wake-up call two thousand years in the making, a reminder that the republic is ours to protect.
About the author Michelle Berenfeld is the John A. McCarthy Professor of Classics at Pitzer College, one of the Claremont Colleges. An archaeologist and fellow of the American Academy in Rome, she has done research in Turkey, Jordan, Egypt, Greece, and Italy. Her work has appeared in The Atlantic and numerous scholarly publications. She lives in Los Angeles.

A schoolteacher moonlighting as a serial killer, an obese cop hiding from mirrors in his own shadow, a woman who can’t tell the truth, a man who can’t tell the difference, plus a little jazz a little sex a little Shakespeare a little murder, and an Australian lesbian who sings like Mel Torme.
About the author I grew up in the movie business…watching them be made…and going to the movies all night long with my grandmother. The movies were my reality…life captured in two-hour stories…a garden of fantasies. My father was an academy award nominated actor. My mother was a more private artist. Along the way, I fell in love with words. Over the years I’ve written and produced movies for television, shot documentaries, acted in and written stage plays, and directed the indie film “Johnny Morran.” When I turned to writing literary fiction, I found myself back in the garden of dreams. My muses are the crime movies of my childhood, with a heavy dose of French and Italian films from the 60s and 70s. Caught in conflicts of conscience, lost in the purple haze and red mist of sex and violence, my characters aren’t sure they’re still alive until they run out of skin.
The Los Angeles Stories is an anthology of six human comedies and dramas, all rooted in the City of Angels. The time is the present. The characters are passengers heading toward uncertain futures. The only technology that is important is the human heart. As I look at these six books, it is fascinating to watch the style and stories and language grow and change.

Book 1 of 3: The King’s Frog Hunter
In the ancient land of Ameram, where giant, man eating frogs lurk in the marshes of the valleys, an aging and vain king has succumbed to the evil that is grasping control of his kingdom. His selfish behavior blinds his wisdom, opening the doors of Castle Ambermal to a wicked sorcerer who uses potions and manipulations to steal the throne from the rightful heir, the king’s only child, Ekala. As the magician begins his plan to revive the power of a once-defeated order of black-hearted creatures, a sculptor of Stone Truth triggers a chain of events that reveal an ancient prophecy and its guardian, Thalmus–The King’s Frog Hunter. Along with his loyal companions, a giant tortoise, a Paint stallion, and a Great Horned owl, the mysterious hunter gathers a unique band of warriors to help the princess in her fight to save her father and the Kingdom. Together they embark on a dangerous quest that will challenge their courage, test their resolve and forge new friendships while battling to fulfill the Prophecy of Ameram.
About the author I started writing The King’s Frog Hunter for my daughter when she was a child. It was never meant for publication, simply to be a story for her about dangerous adventures of a father and daughter in a mysterious ancient land with good and bad people and creatures. I wrote into the story the values that my wife and I wanted her to learn and embrace: honor, integrity, courage, friendship, loyalty, graciousness and mercy. As she grew, so did the complexity of the storyline and the depth of the characters. It turned out they had more to say than I realized. My characters, both human and animal, continued to lead me into deeper themes, including perseverance, pursuit of wisdom, sacrifice, service to others, and the responsibility to fight the ever-present insidious aspect of evil. When my daughter received a postgraduate degree, she requested, as a graduation gift, that I finish the story and publish it for her. So, I wrote more, re-wrote and edited to weave the stories into a novel. Thus, was born The King’s Frog Hunter (the original title from her childhood). It took many years to mature on the page and then be transformed into a book. The writing (and the lessons learned), was a journey in and of itself. But, to my surprise, the characters were not done and led me to write two more of The King’s Frog Hunter story, Shadows of War, Book 2 and The Burning Battle, Book 3 to complete the trilogy–and their story that began so many years ago.
“Be wise and live in the Stone Truth.”
Ken Young lives with his wife and family of real and imaginary characters and creatures in the forest of the Inland Northwest of the U.S.A. Currently, he is working on a book about the impact of Early Onset Alzheimer’s on a mother of four boys and her husband.
