Haystack Full of Needles: A memoir of research on mechanisms of memory in the decades that defined neuroscience by Louis Neal Irwin
https://www.amazon.com/dp/1664140603
How do we store information in the brain? Is memory a thing in a place, like a specific molecule in a particular cell? Or does learning require a process in a population, like neurons firing in a specific pattern for each experience? This combination of memoir and history tells the story of how the mechanisms of memory were gradually revealed, through biographical vignettes of the scientists who set out to solve the riddle of memory, including the author?s own efforts as he was coming of age as a scientist. It shows how individual goals intertwine with the technologies at hand to push scientific knowledge forward, often erratically, and always in the context of social forces and private ups and downs. Not only a compelling personal story with the war in Vietnam, civil rights movement, and downfall of two presidents as backdrop, this is a lucid explanation of brain function for the nonscientist and valuable contribution to the history of science in the decades that saw neuroscience join molecular biology as the marquee biomedical accomplishments of the twentieth century
About the author Writer, neuroscientist, astrobiologist, educator, and political activist. Born in West Texas and raised in San Antonio, now current resident of Denver. Custom Maid Palestine for New World Disorder

Publish and ship date: August 1, 2026
The book proposes a two-state solution that will require Arab countries and Israel to redraw their borders to let a Palestinian state take shape with Jerusalem as its capital. Historical Palestine included the territory that Israel, Gaza, West Bank, Lebanon, southern Turkey, Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt occupy today.
The idea that Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank relocate to a new homeland has merit. However, rather than moving to Jordan, Egypt, South Sudan, or other countries in Africa, it could be a newly created state in what has always been part of the Territorial Province of Palestine.
It is well known that the borders of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Jordan, Syria and Israel, were established by the British and French for their own political and economic interests. Therefore, there is no reason these borders cannot be redrawn to accommodate a Palestinian state.
What is essential now is for Palestinians worldwide to unite and advocate for the establishment and global recognition of a Palestinian state that is independent of Hamas and the Palestinian Authority. The proposed Palestinian state deserves serious consideration as it presents the best opportunity to create a viable modern nation that can peacefully coexist with Israel.

NEGOTIATING WITH TRUMP: LESSONS ON POWER, INFLUENCE, AND DEALING WITH EXTREME BARGAINERS by PETER D. JOHNSTON
https://www.amazon.com/dp/0980942179
WHAT MAKES DONALD TRUMP TICK? Is the world negotiating with a madman—or a genius? Is his chaotic approach to influence instinct-driven, or is it a calculated strategy? And did the co-author of The Art of the Deal secure a second presidency because of his negotiation style, or in spite of it?
To endure and flourish in the era of the 47th president, we need more than political commentary. We need a playbook—one that helps us see patterns and analyze for ourselves what’s going on, while empowering us to excel in our own negotiations.
In Negotiating with Trump, Peter D. Johnston applies the objective lens of a negotiation expert to decode President Trump’s tactics. Johnston exposes the mechanics of Trump’s leverage, digging into his personality profile, his mastery of our psychological tendencies, and the coalition building that drives his agenda.
From the boardroom and the international stage to your living room, this is a systematic and entertaining examination of what works, what fails, and what we can learn from Trump’s extreme approaches to negotiation. Whether you are closing a business deal, negotiating conflicts at home, or hoping to influence America’s next steps as a nation, this book will force you to rethink what you know about power, persuasion, and the art of the deal.
About the author Peter D. Johnston is an international negotiation expert, a leading advisor, thinker, practitioner, and negotiation speaker. His bestselling book, “Negotiating with Giants,” relays lessons from his advisory work, research, and history’s most difficult negotiations, ranging from trade deals and hostage-takings to the achievement of Magna Carta. He is also the author of “Negotiating with Trump” (June 2026) and the award-winning novel, “Weapons of Peace” (2019). His negotiation results have been formally recognized by the US Government for their positive economic and social impact, domestically and abroad. God, by Man by Oguchi H Nkwocha
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DR3NBT52
In this bound-to-be controversial work of theological scholarship, Oguchi H. Nkwocha, M.D., propounds some fascinating and bold theories about religious beliefs. Rather than support his contentions with an abundance of scriptural quotations, the author skillfully builds the case for his unorthodox views with deductive reasoning.Taking an antifundamentalist stance, he asks readers to reexamine man’s relationship with God. The author reveals how various religions and religious sects function by inventing gods and then assigning those “creations” the qualities of omniscience and omnipotence. Evading the reality of the real Supreme Being, mankind has often manufactured his gods in his own image.Instead of presenting his striking theories in an abstract manner, this writer/philosopher relates the shortcomings of many religions by juxtaposing them with such contemporary issues as homelessness, sexism, and ecology-issues which most religions fail to address squarely, if at all. Dr. Nkwocha’s book is at its most compelling when it dissects the way in which religions have evolved from mankind’s need to understand the complex mysteries of nature.Students of religious history will be eager traveling companions on this journey through times as Nkwocha delves into pagan rituals, the traditional political power of the priesthood, and the manner in which our gods continue to fail us when we seek answers to cosmic enigmas.Whether you are an atheist, an agnostic, or a true believer, this profound treatise offers grounds for enlightened spiritual discussion.

Lessons from a Lost Republic: What Ancient Rome Can Teach Us About This American Moment by Michelle Berenfeld
https://www.amazon.com/Lessons-Lost-Republic-Ancient-American/dp/1966302215
A lively pocket history of the Roman Republic’s collapse—and its unsettling echoes in our own political moment.
Americans are obsessed with Rome. Billionaires and manosphere pundits wax on about its military might, its gladiators, its emperors, its greatness.
But we’re telling ourselves the wrong story.
In this sharp, eye-opening account, classics professor Michelle Berenfeld redirects our gaze. The Roman Empire isn’t the lesson—the Roman Republic is. Nearly five centuries of representative government, undone by forces that should sound familiar: wealth and power concentrated in the hands of elites, rampant political violence, endless expansionist wars, and a Senate that normalized emergency measures until it had nothing left to protect. One by one, aspiring strongmen seized what the Senate had surrendered, stretching the limits of their legal power, using the military against their own people, undermining elections, and killing their enemies—until one of them, Augustus, gained total control and became an emperor.
Berenfeld’s argument is both clarifying and urgent: Rome’s slide into autocracy was not inevitable—and neither is ours. Smart, spirited, and packed with revelatory detail, Lessons from a Lost Republic is a wake-up call two thousand years in the making, a reminder that the republic is ours to protect.
About the author Michelle Berenfeld is the John A. McCarthy Professor of Classics at Pitzer College, one of the Claremont Colleges. An archaeologist and fellow of the American Academy in Rome, she has done research in Turkey, Jordan, Egypt, Greece, and Italy. Her work has appeared in The Atlantic and numerous scholarly publications. She lives in Los Angeles.

A schoolteacher moonlighting as a serial killer, an obese cop hiding from mirrors in his own shadow, a woman who can’t tell the truth, a man who can’t tell the difference, plus a little jazz a little sex a little Shakespeare a little murder, and an Australian lesbian who sings like Mel Torme.
About the author I grew up in the movie business…watching them be made…and going to the movies all night long with my grandmother. The movies were my reality…life captured in two-hour stories…a garden of fantasies. My father was an academy award nominated actor. My mother was a more private artist. Along the way, I fell in love with words. Over the years I’ve written and produced movies for television, shot documentaries, acted in and written stage plays, and directed the indie film “Johnny Morran.” When I turned to writing literary fiction, I found myself back in the garden of dreams. My muses are the crime movies of my childhood, with a heavy dose of French and Italian films from the 60s and 70s. Caught in conflicts of conscience, lost in the purple haze and red mist of sex and violence, my characters aren’t sure they’re still alive until they run out of skin.
The Los Angeles Stories is an anthology of six human comedies and dramas, all rooted in the City of Angels. The time is the present. The characters are passengers heading toward uncertain futures. The only technology that is important is the human heart. As I look at these six books, it is fascinating to watch the style and stories and language grow and change.

The King’s Frog Hunter by Ken Young
https://www.amazon.com/dp/0990348806
Book 1 of 3: The King’s Frog Hunter
In the ancient land of Ameram, where giant, man eating frogs lurk in the marshes of the valleys, an aging and vain king has succumbed to the evil that is grasping control of his kingdom. His selfish behavior blinds his wisdom, opening the doors of Castle Ambermal to a wicked sorcerer who uses potions and manipulations to steal the throne from the rightful heir, the king’s only child, Ekala. As the magician begins his plan to revive the power of a once-defeated order of black-hearted creatures, a sculptor of Stone Truth triggers a chain of events that reveal an ancient prophecy and its guardian, Thalmus–The King’s Frog Hunter. Along with his loyal companions, a giant tortoise, a Paint stallion, and a Great Horned owl, the mysterious hunter gathers a unique band of warriors to help the princess in her fight to save her father and the Kingdom. Together they embark on a dangerous quest that will challenge their courage, test their resolve and forge new friendships while battling to fulfill the Prophecy of Ameram.
About the author I started writing The King’s Frog Hunter for my daughter when she was a child. It was never meant for publication, simply to be a story for her about dangerous adventures of a father and daughter in a mysterious ancient land with good and bad people and creatures. I wrote into the story the values that my wife and I wanted her to learn and embrace: honor, integrity, courage, friendship, loyalty, graciousness and mercy. As she grew, so did the complexity of the storyline and the depth of the characters. It turned out they had more to say than I realized. My characters, both human and animal, continued to lead me into deeper themes, including perseverance, pursuit of wisdom, sacrifice, service to others, and the responsibility to fight the ever-present insidious aspect of evil. When my daughter received a postgraduate degree, she requested, as a graduation gift, that I finish the story and publish it for her. So, I wrote more, re-wrote and edited to weave the stories into a novel. Thus, was born The King’s Frog Hunter (the original title from her childhood). It took many years to mature on the page and then be transformed into a book. The writing (and the lessons learned), was a journey in and of itself. But, to my surprise, the characters were not done and led me to write two more of The King’s Frog Hunter story, Shadows of War, Book 2 and The Burning Battle, Book 3 to complete the trilogy–and their story that began so many years ago.
“Be wise and live in the Stone Truth.”
Ken Young lives with his wife and family of real and imaginary characters and creatures in the forest of the Inland Northwest of the U.S.A. Currently, he is working on a book about the impact of Early Onset Alzheimer’s on a mother of four boys and her husband.

Financial Fortress by Stephen Powell

A sudden medical crisis or market crash can destroy decades of hard work in an instant. Are you building a financial plan that only works when everything goes right?
In January 2022, financial professional Stephen Powell walked into the gym for a routine morning workout. Moments later, an aortic dissection caused him to collapse, paralyzing his left side, stripping away his speech, and leaving him with less than a 1% chance of survival. He survived by God’s grace, but he woke up to a harrowing realization: He was the sole breadwinner, and his traditional financial plan had no backup for a real-life crisis.
This life altering experience exposed a massive gap in modern financial literacy. Most people are expertly taught how to accumulate money, but they are never taught how to structure it. They blindly follow the standard formula buy stocks, maximize the 401(k), trust the process only to find themselves walking straight into the “Accumulation Trap.”
In Financial Fortress, Powell shares his deeply personal journey and strips away traditional financial jargon to reveal how wealthy families truly protect, access, and transfer their money. This book is an architectural blueprint for the everyday family provider who carries heavy responsibilities and realizes that a high income alone is not the same as security.
Through practical frameworks and eye-opening illustrations, Powell maps out the Four Pillars of a Financial Fortress: Protection, Growth, Control, and Legacy. You will learn how to transition from simple accumulation to true financial architecture, giving every dollar a distinct job.
Stop managing your future with hope and optimism alone. Build a system. Achieve clarity. Protect the people you love.

Fair Share: How Men and Women Can Create a More Equitable Workplace Together by W. Brad Johnson, David G. Smith
https://www.amazon.com/Fair-Share-Equitable-Workplace-Together/dp/1647826829
How outdated work norms undermine careers, caregiving, and gender equity—and how leaders can fix the system.
The workplace is broken—and it’s holding everyone back. Women still struggle to grow in their careers, while men who endeavor to do their part at home are often stigmatized. This disconnect means that even when men take part in flexible work arrangements or contribute to caregiving, women end up picking up the slack and missing out on professional opportunities.
If companies want to reach their full potential and achieve true fairness at work, the workplace must change—and it starts at the top. In Fair Share, gender-in-the-workplace experts W. Brad Johnson and David G. Smith offer a blueprint for how leaders can break down systemic barriers across the organization so that men can do more outside of paid work and women can take their rightful place in the ranks of corporate leadership. They suggest focusing on three key areas:
Rethinking company culture and the structure of work Going all-in on caregiving options and employee benefits Making gender fairness routine through process and policies Filled with examples and insights from both men and women, Fair Share offers a look at what companies can become when leaders finally break down the obstacles holding everyone back. By working together, men and women can create a better workplace, one where every individual can achieve what they want—both at work and at home.

To Then and Back Again: A Memoir Part One A Collection of Uh-Oh’s, No No’s and A Few OMG’S by Jerry Bryson McMillan
https://www.amazon.com/Then-Back-Again-Memoir-Collection/dp/B0CVBKXNCP
To Then And Back Again is a memoir written in two parts. It’s a book for those who enjoy the trials and tribulations of real-life people and feel they can or would like to relate to those whom they are reading about. It’s a memoir about only those richest, most interesting details concerning my life…or so I would like to think. It was written to convey those sometimes simple, sometimes complex, but many times emotionally charged experiences I’ve had during my life. Whether these emotions were elicited by the harsh realities of adversity that I, like many, have faced and overcome, or by the personal triumphs achieved through perseverance, and at times, through sheer willpower alone is for the reader to decide. I will, however, try to express them in such a manner as to allow the readers the chance to decide for themselves. We will embark on a journey to then and back again; an odyssey that will encompass a multitude of adventures that are at times disturbing and chaotic, and at other times fascinating and humorous. These adventures will range from overcoming desperation and loneliness as a result of a hidden identity, to the anguish of a best friend and his suicide that served absolutely no purpose nor had any meaning; a suicide that gained nothing for anyone…especially himself. From an insidious monster’s theft of a child’s innocence to things that just happen; catching you unaware, then kicks you right square in your pearly whites. The journey will certainly run the gamut of human experiences and emotions, and I will share my life with the reader if they wish to take the ride. And of which I’m also certain, if I do it suitably, then they will vicariously become the reader’s adventures as well. The first part is about my life from the time I was about eight years old, when our family home was destroyed by fire to when I was just out of high school and first went out to live on my own. The second part will be about my life from when I was about twenty until I was thirty something. It will begin when my dad and I built my first home until I finally moved from my hometown to go off to medical school.

Bliss in Triple Rhythm–A Toolbox for Poets: Nine Ways to Shape A Word Song: Shown in 300 Original Poems by Martin Bidney
https://www.amazon.com/Bliss-Triple-Rhythm-Toolbox-Poets/dp/1987402561
This book of word songs in unexpected melodic patterns will surprise you by its equally unusual liveliness. I’m so eager to begin singing for you that, as you noticed, I’ve already written a prefatory poem in one of the varied kinds of triple rhythm units I’ll be illustrating (la LA la; weak STRONG weak; one TWO three; x/x). The strangest thing I’ll be doing in my collection is to bring about a resurrection of ancient stanza patterns embodying the musical structures I love. The uncustomary triple-rhythm stanza forms richly displayed will acquire a real if unlikely novelty by presenting tools so extremely old.
About the author Martin Bidney, Professor Emeritus at Binghamton University (NY), writes poetry books that are dialogues. In “Shakespair” he converses in Shakespearean sonnets with the 154 that the bisexual Bard himself wrote in the 1590s about his boyfriend and girlfriend. In “A Unifying Light” Martin converses with Qur’anic passages on the topic of Jews and Christians in the Qur’an and the Islamic virtues they embody. “East-West Poetry” shows Martin replying, in poems, to passages from both the Qur’an and Rumi. “Poems of Wine and Tavern Romance” offers 103 dialogues between Martin and Hafiz, the 14th century Persian pub poet he translates, a Muslim Sufi who was bisexual, like Shakespeare, and whom Germany’s greatest poet, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, called his “twin” brother! (Martin translates Hafiz from the same version Goethe used.) In fact, Martin has also translated Goethe’s own “West-East Divan” (divan means “collection”) and wrote conversational reply poems to all of Goethe’s 240 lyrics. Martin’s dialogue book with the greatest Polish poet, Adam Mickiewicz, contains, on facing pages, the sonnets he wrote in response to the “Crimean Sonnets” he translated from Polish. In “Like a Fine Rug of Erivan” he translates 39 Pushkin poems from Russian and recites them on a CD. His wide-ranging fascination with revelatory writing stems from “Patterns of Epiphany,” where Martin pioneered a method of analysis he has since applied to over 20 authors.

Ivy Sue Klutz (Little MisFit – LMF) finds one of her first memories confusing. This is when she is three and a half years old and is at her sister Lynn’s birthday party. Their cousin, Janet, asks the partygoers to guess what Lynn’s birthday present is as the truck delivering the present is backing up to the front porch of their house. Unbeknown to LMF, Janet told the other kids not to really guess that it’s a bike. You guessed – LMF guesses that her sister is getting a bike for her 5th birthday present. But instead of everyone being happy that LMF guessed the right thing, everyone is mad at her and none more than her mother. LMF runs off to her soon-to-be baby brother’s bedroom and tries to hide behind his dresser, with her mother hot on her
heels, yelling at her all the way. From this experience and many others through her 4th grade years in school, LMF learns the Life Lesson that Life Isn’t Always What It Seems.
Many people growing up are often made to feel inadequate or not to fi t in in situations, as a former probation officer, executive/life coach and professor, Dr. Susan Grunin, learned through humor and working with others – particularly children and young adults, how to fit in those uncomfortable situations. She believes that it is important that children learn at a young age how to manage these issues and to use humor to build their own self-esteem. Thus, she created, Little MisFit, (LMF) a fictional character, who through humorous tales, shares life lessons that she learns as she is growing up. Through these stories, LMF describes how she learned to overcome many life challenges and accept who she is as a person. Furthermore, the tales allow adults to share their own tales without coming off “too preachy” and to be able to share their own life lessons with their children and/or grandchildren or other loved ones.

________________________________________
In an age of moral compromise, fractured identity, and silent surrender, Take a Stand: A Look Within confronts a truth many refuse to face:
The instability shaking nations is rooted in the instability within individuals.
This is not a political argument.
It is not cultural commentary.
It is a summons to accountability before God.
Dr. Shanequa E. Wilson exposes the war within – the internal erosion of conviction, the distortion of identity, and the quiet agreements made with fear, culture, and compromise. From generational foundations to modern-day deception, she dismantles false narratives that have shaped minds, weakened families, and diluted spiritual authority.
Through biblical examination, national reflection, and personal confrontation, this work moves beyond observation and into repositioning.
It challenges readers to:
– Examine the internal agreements fueling external chaos
– Discern the spiritual forces influencing societal direction
– Reclaim identity grounded in truth
– Stand with clarity in a time demanding courage
This book is not designed for passive readers.
It is written for those willing to confront themselves before confronting the world.
The battle is not merely around you.
It is within you.
And where you stand internally determines what you will stand for publicly.

An eighth-generation Texan descended from Stephen F. Austin’s original Old 300 families, Victor began his career as a water boy on a nuclear power plant construction project at nineteen years old. Over the next fifty years, he worked his way through the ranks of the construction industry, eventually retiring as a vice president. Along the way, he became an internationally recognized outdoorsman, setting multiple world hunting records across six continents.
But The Man That I Would Become is not a book about success.
It is a book about becoming.
Through stories of faith, failure, leadership, family, hunting, adversity, and personal growth, Victor shares the hard-earned lessons that shaped his life. From football fields and construction sites to hunting camps around the world, each chapter reveals the struggles, setbacks, victories, and moments of grace that helped form the man he would become.
This inspiring memoir explores what it means to take responsibility, persevere through hardship, lead with integrity, and trust God’s plan when the road ahead is uncertain. It is a story for anyone who has ever faced adversity, questioned their purpose, or wondered what truly matters in life.
Today, Victor and his family continue that mission through Bretting Texan Ranch (B-Tex Ranch) in North Texas, where wounded veterans, terminally ill children, and young men seeking purpose are welcomed to experience faith, fellowship, and the healing power of the outdoors.
The Man That I Would Become is more than a memoir. It is a reminder that life’s greatest achievement is not measured by titles, wealth, or accomplishments, but by becoming the person God created you to be.
This is Victor’s story and an invitation to visit the place where it all comes together: B-Tex Ranch.
About the author Victor Bretting is an 8th-generation Texan part of the original Old 300 families who settled this land under Stephen F. Austin. With nearly five decades in the construction industry, he built his career from the ground up—earning every lesson through long days, hard work, and real responsibility. That same grit carried over into the outdoors, where he became a lifelong hunter and international sportsman, harvesting many species across five continents and earning multiple world records and top honors in the hunting community.
Victor is the owner of Bretting Texan Ranch (B-Tex Ranch) in North Texas, where he has created more than a hunting operation. His ranch stands as a reflection of his values: hard work, stewardship, faith, and treating people like family.
Victor is deeply committed to giving back through organizations like Hunting with Soldiers, which brings combat veterans into the outdoors to find healing from the weight of war, and Cross Trail Outfitters, a faith-based ministry dedicated to guiding young men and women through outdoor experiences rooted in Christ. At his ranch, these aren’t just events—they are moments of restoration, mentorship, and purpose.
